Peggy nursing after we
cleaned and wrapped her
stump.
.
This is her first day before
treatment......will be posting
many photos to come.
Peggy Sue
Riding Pals
This is Peggy's first step to a new leg and a
new life.  To all those who are concerned I
assure you that she wants to be alive and is
not suffering.  The success rate of a
prosthetic leg is very high and she will have a
good quality of life.   We will be monitoring
everything she does and any sign that this it
to tuff for her we will take appropriate action.

Meet Peggy......She is a 4 1/2mo. old AQHA Filly.    Unfortunately Peggy got her leg hung in the
fence and cut all her tendons and lost her fetlock and hoof.  Her original owner did not know
what to do but did not want to euthanize her because she has such a will to live so I rescued
her.  Now with the help of you all she will be having surgery and receiving a prosthetic leg.
The cost of this is enormous so we are asking for donations and prayers.

Day 4:  Tuesday October 14
Today Peggy let me give her meds without any help.  She
is getting more and more gentle everyday.  We sent pics to
the surgeon and he is very positive that we have a great
chance.  Many of you have sent hate mail and are
concerned about the money and the quality of life for
Peggy so I am going to break it down for you.

We will be hauling to Wyoming very soon.  She will spend a
couple day settling in before surgery.  They will then do
the surgery and clean up her stump.
After the procedure and once she is healing up well they
will fit her for a temporary prosthetic.  Due to her growth
she will go through 2 of these before her permanent one.
She will stay at the hospital in Sheridan, Wyoming for 2mo.
while she is healing and leaning how to walk with her
temporary prosthetic.

As far as her quality of life it will be great!  I plan on
keeping her for the rest of her days and she will be treated
like royalty.  Once she learns how to get around she will be
able to walk and trot around in the pasture.  I even plan to
swim her for exercise so she grows the way she is
supposed to.

As you might know I am a riding instructor and I have
birthday parties and camps all the time....She will be the
mascot of these and the kids will love her.

Below is a breakdown of what this will cost....
*Surgery and Approx. 2mo. after care                $5,000-$7,000
*Temporary Prosthetic  X2                      $5,000
*Permanent Prosthetic                             $4,500

Her daily care.........yes there  may times when Peggy breaks
something on her prosthetic and we will just have to have it repaired
( I am aware of this).  I will have to change her sock everyday but it is
no different then waking up and getting your children dressed.
There have been comments as to being tied down to this...well yes I
am, but I have 6 other horses that I already am tied down to so
whats one more that just needs a little extra care????  This is my
love, my passion, my life!!!!!
GOAL:  Our current goal right
now is to pay for Peggy's new
leg.  She has had both surgeries
& 100% recovered and ready for
her leg!!!  The cost is $4000.  So
my goal is to get 1000 people to

donate just $4 and we can get
the leg.  Please help this girl.
She needs us!!!
Every dollar counts!!!  God Bless You and Thank You
*****WE DID IT******
Goal 1:If we can reach the first $3000 by Thursday
we will head to Wyoming Thursday late afternoon.
The sooner I get her there the sooner the surgeon
can do the surgery.

Dr. Ted Vlahos will be performing her surgery at
Sheridan Equine Hospital in Sheridan, Wyoming!!!!
Day 5:  October  15
Today Peggy is doing great!  Again she let me do her meds.without
any help and she was even easy to catch.  I want to thank everyone
who has donated but we are a long ways off our first goal of $3000.
I was wanting to leave Thursday so she could be at the clinic by
Friday but that is not going to happen.  I am now going to shoot for
Monday.  It is very important I get her there asap so they can
continue her care.  Please just keep spreading the word and keep
her in your prayers!  Thank you all so much!!
!
Day 6:  October  16
Let me start by saying Peggy was feeling good today!!!  It was a
bit chilly and all the horses were frisky including Miss
Peggy.....She even managed to get her bandage off.  It was ok
because the vet was coming to clean and re-bandage anyways,
but we had to do some extra cleaning.   She was a stinker this
afternoon while we were trying to get her fixed up.  She just
wanted to run circles around us.   Again I am very thankful for all
the donations that have come in.  We are getting closer to our
goal but we still have a bit to go.  Things are looking good though
and I am going to plan/hope to leave for Wyoming on Monday!!!
Day 8: October 18
Peggy is still doing very well.  I
stepped on a nail night before
last so yesterday I was not
feeling that great .  I had my
husband go into the stall to
catch her for me to give her
meds and she took off running
away from him.  It was pretty
funny but I had to do it myself
because she has gotten so
used to me playing with her
everyday!  We have met over half
of our goal to leave Monday so if
the donations keep coming in
over the next couple of days I
should be able to take her.  I am
going to spend the weekend
preparing to leave.  I have to
brief my hubby on what to do
while I'm gone.  We have 16
other  horses here he will have
to tend while I am away.
Everyone check out
www.amputeenews.com Peggy
made it on todays news page.
Her page has almost had
10,000 hits.  Please keep
spreading the word and
praying.  I am going to try and
get a video of her up before we
leave so you all can see how
great she is!!!!  Thank you for all
your kind words and actions.
Day10: October 20
Today is the day.....We will be
loading up and heading to
Wyoming in just a couple
hours!!!  Peggy is so spunky
today.. I let them out to get
some exercise today before
the long haul.  I am headed to
the feed store now to get
straw to bed the trailer real
soft.   I am so exited and
nervous/ancious at the same
time.  All I can do is hope and
pray this goes well.  as for
our goal...we did not
completely reach our goal but
I will be in Wyoming til Wed.
so keep it coming.  I will leave
the deposit of $3000 on Wed.
before I head home.   Thank
you all for your donations and
support.   I will take pics
when we get there!!! God
Bless!!!
October 27
We made it to Wyoming.....Peggy has her surgery today!!!!  She is
doing so good.  We accomplished Goal #1 so now its time to move
on to Goal #2.....We have 1mo. to raise $4000 to pay for Peggy's first
leg.  Lots of good things are happening and Peggy can't wait for her
leg!!!!:)  Please click on the link to see all our photos from the trip.

raise the next part for Peggy's new
prosthetic leg.  Prayers and donations
needed.
Nov. 1
I will be out of pocket for a while  but I wanted to let
everyone know Peggy is still doing good.  I talked with Dr.
Vlahos yesterday and he said she has not had a fever
since her surgery and is wonderful.  She even kicked his
wife in the thigh.  as you know we had to wean her early
when we left her in wyoming and we were a bit nervous
for her, but she took it like a champ and is already eating
a junior feed and platinum performance.  she is in her
cast now and we  are hoping a week from monday she
will get her first temporary prosthetic put on.  I will let you
all know how that goes.  Peggy has a story on the web
now....CHECK IT OUT!

Well we have had a bit of a setback, but nothing big...  She is having some
problems in her stifle of her amputated leg.  So...We are now planning on SX
monday afternoon.  She is doing so good and Dr. Vlahos says she is not showing
any discomfort.   BUT on a better note...Her stump is completely healed from her
amputation surgery.  Dr. Vlahos sent over some recent pics of her for me to share
with you all and also a couple from her first surgery.  Thank you all for being so
kind and praying for Peggy.
For those of you who do not wish to use the paypal link to donate
please email me for an address to send checks to.

PEGGY UPDATE!!!!!
Peggy is doing so good.  She has recovered from both of her
surgeries and is awaiting her prosthetic leg.  I have not gotten to go
visit her and I miss her so much but Dr. Vlahos says she has gotten
BIG!!  She is gaining a lot of weight and just an amazing little horse.
Donations have slowed a great deal i'm guessing due to the holidays
but I am hoping they speed back up because she can not have her leg
made until I have the $4000.  We are a long ways off so my new goal is
just to get 1000 people to donate just $4 and we can get Peggy her
leg.  We want her home as soon as possible and hey "tis the season to
give".  Thank you and god bless you.  Dr. V will be sending me pics
soon and I willpost them.

New PEGGY UPDATE!!!!!
Well I spoke with Dr. Vlahos on the phone yesterday and he said Peggy
continues to thrive.  He said yesterday was the first day she got turned out in the
barn with her temp. leg on.  He said she was out for about 10minutes and was
walking around like she had all four of her own legs.  She did great and he said
it was very refreshing!!!  He plans to lay her down to take 1 of the growth plates
out next week and then with 2 wks of healing she will be ready for her l Semi
Perm. leg.  We are working very hard to raise the money for this leg so
donations are still needed.  I have started a fundraiser for Peggy selling candles

Peggy Sue UPDATE
March 22, 2009
Hello all!  I am very sorry that I am just now posting this long over due update on Peggy.  She is
doing great and has settled into Texas just fine.  She has now been home for about 5-6 weeks
and I enjoy her so much.  She is getting so big and is such the PIGGY!!!!  She loves her grain.
She is so sweet and enjoys being scratched all over.
When she first got to Texas the heat made her leg stock up and I was having to sweat wrap her
leg for about a week but now she is fine.

We are putting a video together of all she has gone through and I will post it soon.  Donations
are still needed for her care.
I am so greatful for everything every one has done for Peggy and I will be doing updates more
often.
Oh and there are rumors going around the net that Peggy Sue is dead and no she is not she is
alive and well.

Oh and there are a few people who have bought candles that I need to send them to but I lost
track of which orders I shipped off so if you read this please let me know if you have not gotten
you candle.
Peggy Sue sporting her new Leg!!
April 27, 2009
Peggy finally got her second leg.  She outgrew her first one so fast.  Her legs are now being
made here in Ft. Worth and will be much easier.  The new one will last much longer because it
was created to adjust a great deal.

She has decided she likes to kick at the dogs when she is outside.  Let me tell you her leg does
not slow her down.  She runs all over the place and thinks she is no different.

This week our newspaper is coming out to do a story on her....It will be in the Ft. Worth Star
Telegram very soon.

I want you all to know that Peggy is truly doing well.  She is a joy to be around and she gets a
daily brushing (which she LOVES).  My farrier will be out on Friday and we may try to trim her
hooves a little but we will see.

Here are some pics of her with the new leg on.
